2013

year in review

With another year almost in the books, it’s time for the annual exercise of looking back at my life and work through the tens of thousands of frames I’ve made in a year’s time. While going through the sheer volume and variety of images, I was reminded and struck by how much of my life is spent looking through a lens, as well as in pursuit of a direction, time, subject, and place to point the lens. So often, my camera, vision, and the work I do provides me a ticket to places I couldn’t imagine and people I would likely never have met. I guess it’s an odd way to experience the world, but I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to do so this way, and couldn’t really imagine it otherwise.

I’m thankful for all the people I’ve met who have shared their time and stories with me and given me the opportunity to tell some of those stories visually. And I’m grateful for the freedom to roam the sidelines and courses of athletic events in search of telling moments and nice light. These photographs are some of my favorites and moments that stood out to me from the past year. I look forward to another year of visual exploration, along with, I hope, growth as both an individual and photographer. Happy New Year!

  1. Great work, Joe! I think the same about this profession…meeting the characters we wouldn’t otherwise interact with is the best part of the gig! Keep up the good work, brotha.

    • Thanks Dan! Yeah it’s incredible the variety of people from all walks of life you come across. Appreciate you checking out the blog!

  2. A fantastic set of frames Joe. Great cycling and environmental portrait work in there. I agree, I can’t imagine doing another job – the people we meet and the stories we tell are too crazy to turn away from. Keep Shooting!
