With the rare occurrence of the moon hitting the closest point in its elliptical orbit to Earth, I thought I’d look to the skies to make some photographs. I started by shooting from a high point in town, Pilot Butte, to catch it coming up from the horizon. After that, I ventured closer to town to try to frame it with some local flavor – in this case, in between the smokestacks of the Old Mill District. I caught it just before the skies got too dark and the moon too bright, often an issue when trying to photograph the moon. Pretty cool event and worth taking a few minutes to scan the night skies.
