Colorful Hills (sort of)

outdoors, road trip

A few weeks back, I got out of town for a day and headed east to check out the colored volcanic ash/rock formations that make up parts of the John Day Fossil Beds. Though the cloudy, overcast day rendered the rocks a little less vibrant,  I was struck by the area’s unique landscape. I also couldn’t pass up the shoe-covered tree just off the road along the way. Not sure of its significance but quite a sight.
