Hop Harvest

I paid an early morning visit to Cascade Hop Farm recently to catch some of the seasonal haul of hops. While Central Oregon doesn’t have the ideal climate and conditions to make growing hops more prevalent, it certainly has the appetite for craft beer. Now is the time when brewers celebrate the harvest with their fresh hop creations. These ales involve brewing with hops picked the same day when they’re still wet, as was the case when I observed the harvest. Brewers from Wild Ride helped take down vines, and within hours were adding 150 pounds of freshly-picked flowers to their brew kettle.

    • Thanks H3! They’re a small scale operation, but that’s basically the process for fresh hop beers. Bigger farms grow a lot more and dry the hops for brewing throughout the year
