On a recent search for story ideas, I saw a blurb about the La Pine Mushing Weekend and had a feeling it would be worth checking out. The annual event gives mushers a chance to run their teams in carts, scooters, and ATVs on dirt trails through La Pine State Park. Event organizer and Siberian husky kennel owner, Karen Yeargain, welcomed me to join her team for a day and follow them as they prepared and ran trails. I even had the opportunity to experience a mushers-eye view on a foggy morning ride.
