Looking at a year’s worth of photographs, by the numbers, is staggering in terms of the success to failure ratio – so few to so many. Photography, like most pursuits, requires time, practice, commitment and, well, lots of failure, to make something that goes beyond the level of mediocrity, or even “good”. As I go through my thousands of almosts and not quites, as well as the much smaller group of successes, I’m motivated to learn what I can from them and apply these lessons to my daily practice of this craft. I’m reminded of the people and places I’ve come across throughout the year in these photographs and the journey in between. It’s been a wild ride, one I’m honored and humbled to experience. These are some highlights from my year, mostly in chronological order:
